Comments Welcome!

Made with DoodleBuddy
It has become almost an addiction! Everyday I check my blog to see if anyone has left a new comment.  When someone leaves a comment it lets me know that people are interested in what I am writing, but more importantly, they are helping me grow and learn through their thoughts and ideas!

Comments:
  • Add to the conversation by providing views and and opinions not already expressed OR validate ideas being shared.
  • Extend the conversations as people leave links to sites that will guide or lead to further enlightenment.
  • Involve the reader and writer in conversations about topics of interest.
  • Compliment the writer or the topic.  It's nice to give and receive compliments so feel free to leave one on a blog!
Several people who follow have expressed a desire to leave a comment, but they have had some difficulty with the commenting section.  So I thought it might be a good idea to explain HOW to create a successful comment.  Hopefully, this will help.

Directions for posting:

1) Choose "Comment As" first. If you don't have a Google/Blogger account, you can choose Name/URL and type in your name, then place the web site that best describes you in the URL (i.e. www.ajusd.org). If you do not have a URL you can leave that blank.  You can also choose "Anonymous" which will leave the comment but not your name.

2) Feel free to "Preview" your comment to see what it will look like when posted.

3) Select "Post Comment" when you're ready. (Sometimes this might need to be done more than once.)

4) NOTE:  Before posting a comment I will copy it, in the event there is a problem, that way I haven't lost my comment and can try to post it again.

5) Thank you Tracy Watanabe for these directions to post!

I have also created this VIDEO Screencast which walks you through the process. (There is also a plug at the end to sign up for my blog via email!)    Click here: HOW TO CREATE A COMMENT

Good luck and happy commenting!  Please feel free to leave a comment on this post to try it out!  If you do, please check back as I try to respond to all comments!

  1. It was a good idea for you to post this blog. I rarely have time to read the blogs you send, so there is no reason to comment. However, this one was a great idea and deserving of a response.
    Thanks for the lesson!

  2. Hi Nancy,

Great post! You have saved me making a video on how to comment! Now I'll just send people to your blog for directions. Would you mind if I made your post a link on my blog for tutorial help on commenting?

    Kind regards,
    Tracy

  4. Hi Nancy, Your post was perfect timing for me! I taught blogging to my high school class for the first time last year. This year, after attending your session at MassCue, I updated my lesson plan. My students have just decided on their topics and a few have already added their first post. We are just starting to go over the do's and don'ts of comments. If it's ok with you, I am going to add a link to my blog to your post. Here is my class blog which is just a blog teaching how to develop a blog: http://dshsalighieri.blogspot.com/

    Again. thanks so much!

  5. @ Beth: I am so glad you left a comment and hope that perhaps you will take a moment to look through my blog posts when you have time. Although they are education based, I think there are many posts that could apply in the business world and to life in general. Thanks for taking the time to comment!

@ Tracy: If you find this post useful - I'd be honored if you posted a link. I hope you don't mind that I borrowed your idea to leave the directions in the space BEFORE the comment section. I hope others find it helpful too! You see, I'm always learning from you!

@ Carol Ann: I wonder if the people who are complaining to you are the ones complaining to me - tee hee! Your blog posts are great and I am inspired by your wit, knowledge and perseverance with your blogging! Way to go!

@ Ms. Alighieri - Please feel free to link this page if you find it useful. I checked out your blog and left a comment there, but you have such great information for your students. I hope to check back and read their blogs and comments. Don't forget to put a link on Twitter for their posts using the hashtag #comments4kids. They are sure to get lots of folks looking at their blogs.

Thank you all for taking the time to leave a comment!

  6. Hi nancy, it's Lori again. I saw your QR code (on your blog)and of course, I had to try to make one too! I created mine using http://www.qurify.com/en/
It was free and it worked like a charm. I noticed that there were some sites that charged a fee for QR codes while others were free. Do you know of any reason why it would make sense to pay as oppose to getting the freebie?

  7. Nancy,
What a great idea to get in the habit of copying the comment in the event there is a problem. I am going to try to remember that because I have lost comments before. More often than not, I do not rewrite lost comments. Now if I remember to copy, I won't have to lose them. I think it happens when I click on the button to use my Google log in, submit comment, but I am not logged in to Google.

I have been on some Blogger blogs that do not give the choice to leave a comment with name/URL or Anonymous. Do you know if that is up to the blog owner on Blogger? Can they choose that or not?

Thanks for spreading the word. I remember it was just a year ago when I was not leaving comments on others blogs and I had many of these questions. It's not easy to join the conversation when there are so many different platforms and different ways to do it on each one.

Here's another tip I've learned on Blogger. When I want to leave a link, I use an html editor to write the comment and then the link is hot. An example would be the QR Codes link in the comment above.

    Thanks again,
    Denise

P.S. I remembered to copy this before submitting!

  8. Hi Denise,
Not sure when I decided I would start to copy comments, because, like you I had written many and lost them (and didn't rewrite them). Even still, if for some reason I can't leave a comment after the first two attempts - I just forget about it.
Blogger has some many different comment settings where the author can control how comments are posted. I actually got rid of the 'spam word' protector as I found it frustrated many would-be commentors. (I do check my spam box regularly).
Thank you, thank you for the html tip - I have wondered how some people are able to leave hot links while others do not! Great info.
As always, Denise, I appreciate your support and comments! I'm thrilled to have connected with you!
